How often should I have my piano tuned?

It's generally recommended to tune your piano at least once or twice a year. However, pianos in frequent use, such as those played regularly, may benefit from more frequent tunings.
How long does a tuning take?

A standard appointment typically lasts 2 to 3 hours. During this time, you'll receive a comprehensive diagnosis of your piano's health, along with quotes for any necessary pitch raises or repairs. If you choose not to proceed with the repairs, you can still expect a thorough and stable tuning that will ensure your piano sounds its best.
Do you tune pianos that haven't been touched in a long time?

Yes. However, if the piano is very out of tune, I typically offer two options: Firstly, I can tune the piano to its current pitch, which is a popular and reliable choice for casual piano owners. Secondly, I can perform a pitch raise, gradually bringing the pitch back toward the original concert pitch—the standard for all instruments. Depending on how far out of tune the piano is, I may need to do multiple pitch raises. After a pitch raise, the piano will settle at the new tension but may slip slightly in tuning. This is completely normal, and I recommend booking a follow-up tuning a few weeks later to stabilise the new pitch.
What factors can affect the tuning of my piano?

Changes in temperature and humidity, the frequency of use, and the age of the piano can all impact tuning stability. Regular maintenance helps keep your piano in tune.
Can I tune my piano myself?

While some people attempt to tune their pianos, it's a delicate process that requires skill and experience. It's best to hire a professional piano tuner for accurate results.
How can I prepare my piano for a tuning appointment?

Please clear the area around the piano, ensure it is accessible, and provide any relevant information about the piano's history or issues you've noticed. If you can also provide a quiet environment, I would really appreciate it!
What payment methods do you accept?

I accept both card and cash payments. A tax invoice will be sent after each appointment for your records.
What pianos do you service?

I work on both grand and upright pianos. If you have either that needs tuning, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Do you provide other services besides tuning?

Will my upright sound like a beautiful grand piano after it's tuned?

While tuning can greatly improve the sound and playability of your piano, it’s important to understand that no amount of tuning will make a $500 piano sound like a $10,000 piano. Tuning and maintenance will help bring out the best sound your piano can produce, but each instrument has its own tonal qualities and limitations.
